Felix Benton
Felix Benton (b. 2000) is an artist from Marfa, Texas. Currently Living and working between Marfa, Texas and NYC.
Felix Benton is an American painter who spent his formative years in Marfa, Texas and the Swiss Alps. He then attended the Rhode Island School of Design where he studied painting and graduated with a BFA. Felix’s current work revolves around Americana, mirage, home and locality.
His experience growing up in two remote communities half a world apart helps inform his practice and guides his work. Felix’s work stems from interactions; a sycamore growing through a chain link fence, ice buildup on the thorns of cactus, the gentle uplift of a sidewalk from a trees roots. He believes greatness can exist everywhere and in everything The surfaces of the paintings are built through individual pieces of information that merge together. These layers accumulate to a singular painting where no movement is removable or stands without the whole. The new images aren’t tied to the individual content of the subjects but instead stand together as their own unique moment of seeing. In this way, they hope to mirror the moments they come from. They attempt to hold some of the complexity of seeing and being in space. |
